Minneapolis, MN – Feb. 5, 2020: Minnesotans for Responsible Marijuana Regulation (MRMR) today announced that St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter joined the steering committee of the organization.
“Prohibition strains our public resources and burdens taxpayers," said Mayor Carter. "Responsible legalization will save public dollars, address overcriminalization and overcrowding of prisons, and help move us toward a criminal justice system that is more just.”
“The addition of Mayor Carter further demonstrates the broad and serious interest in legalization happening in Minnesota,” said Leili Fatehi, MRMR Campaign Manager. “Minnesotans – including elected officials – are ready for substantive conversation about how Minnesota can legalize and get it right.”
Since launching the campaign at the start of the 2019 legislative session, MRMR has worked with state legislators, local elected officials, and Minnesotans across the state to advance discussion and catalyze action to legalize marijuana for adult recreational use in Minnesota.
During the 2020 legislative session, MRMR will be back at the Capitol working with advocates and legislators. The group will jumpstart the year with a February 18 lobby day. The public is invited and can register here: https://www.mnisready.org/events/mrmr-lobby-day.
