This study compared Schedule II and III opioid usage among Medicaid enrollees before and after recreational marijuana legalization in eight states and DC. The study found legalization of recreational marijuana did not increase Schedule II opioid prescriptions and resulted in reductions of 32%, 30%, and 31% respectively in the number of prescriptions of, total doses of , and spending on Schedule III opioids.
